To obtain federal election campaign funds, candidates must agree to spending limits and demonstrate public support by raising qualifying contributions. Eligible candidates can receive matching funds from the Presidential Election Campaign Fund if they meet specific criteria set by the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Candidates must raise at least $5,000 in contributions from individuals in at least 20 states to qualify for these funds.
To run for president of the United States, you must be a natural-born citizen, at least 35 years old, and have been a resident of the U.S. for at least 14 years. You also need to register with the Federal Election Commission once you raise or spend more than $5,000 for your campaign.
